Aims of the Conference:· --To provide participants with an understanding of US missile defence policies and the status of its efforts to deploy an initial missile defence capability.· --To provide participants with a general overview of both US and European views of the diplomatic, military, and technical challenges posed by deploying missile defences.· --To examine the emerging threat to Europe from missiles and weapons of mass destruction and to explore what individual nations and NATO are doing to address this threat.· --To review alternative architectures for a potential missile defence of Europe.· --To identify opportunities for transatlantic missile defence cooperation, focusing on current US plans for industrial cooperation and efforts to remove or ease barriers to potential cooperation.· --To show the potential synergies and security benefits of transatlantic missile defence cooperation.
