Wilton Park’s annual meeting on healthcare in developing countries focuses this year on the unprecedented global effort to curb the outbreak of malaria. How can an aggressive attack be mounted on malaria in the most heavily affected countries and regions? How can local eradication, country-by-country, moving inwards from the margins of the endemic zone be achieved in practice? IMPROVING CIVILIAN-MILITARY CO-ORDINATION IN RESPONSE TO SUDDEN ONSET DISASTERS

This conference follows on from the January 2008 conference to identify ways in which civil-military co-ordination can improve the delivery of humanitarian assistance at regional and sub-regional levels at times of disaster. Lessons from recent disaster response efforts in Burma and China will be shared alongside longer-term humanitarian action in Darfur, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Afghanistan.
